Tom Dundon is a Co-Founder and the Chairman of Southpaw Capital Partners. Mr. Dundon is the Chief Executive Officer, sole owner and governor of the Carolina Hurricanes. Mr. Dundon is also the Chairman and Managing Partner of Dundon Capital Partners, a Dallas-based private investment firm. His investment activities have spanned the sports and entertainment, healthcare, real estate and hospitality, technology, automotive and financial services sectors.
Born in New York and raised in Dallas, Mr. Dundon attended Southern Methodist University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1993 and served as president of Phi Gamma Delta. Then, in 1997 with a number of partners, he cofounded a business focused primarily on automobile financing, which over the next 10 years and through a series of transactions, became Santander Consumer USA (“SCUSA”), a large public U.S. consumer finance company majority held by Banco Santander. Mr. Dundon served in various capacities for the company, and ultimately became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
In the summer of 2015, Mr. Dundon stepped aside as CEO of Dallas-based SCUSA to focus on his entrepreneurial investments via Dundon Capital Partners. Dundon and the firm actively pursue investments across industries. He is the majority owner of Pacific Elm Properties, a Dallas-area real estate company, a large investor of Topgolf Callaway Brands, and an investor in a number of pickleball-related companies, including Pickleball Inc.
Mr. Dundon is a consistent supporter of Dallas charities, with a focus on academic and sports-community focused initiatives. Of note is his support of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, which hosts the PGA’s annual AT&T Byron Nelson, one of the largest fundraisers for the Momentous Institute, a leading provider of therapeutic and education services that impacts 6,000 kids and family members each year. To help support the Salesmanship Club, Mr. Dundon funded the construction and development of Trinity Forest Golf Club, a premier, non-profit, 18-hole championship golf course and 9-hole short course. Opened in 2017, Trinity Forest features a private golf facility built for Southern Methodist University’s men’s and women’s golf teams, and provides support for the First Tee of Dallas, a non-profit organization that leverages golf to develop character building amongst the youth. Mr. Dundon formed the Dundon Family Charitable Fund, which will support various qualified non-profit initiatives, with a focus on supporting academic and athletic initiatives at top universities in the U.S.
Zubin Mehta is a Co-Founder and the Managing Partner of Southpaw Capital Partners. Mr. Mehta is the Chief Investment Officer at Dundon Capital Partners and a Vice Chairman of the Carolina Hurricanes. Mr. Mehta has 25+ years of experience as an Investment Banker, Private Equity and Venture Capital investor, Founder, Operating Executive and Advisor to companies across multiple industries. Prior to founding Southpaw, Mr. Mehta was a Co-Founder and General Partner of Good Alpha Industries VC, a venture capital firm that invested across Consumer Products, Consumer Technology and Sports Entertainment.
Mr. Mehta has been an active investor and operator across multiple industries for the past 20 years. In sports entertainment, Mr. Mehta is an investor in Aston Martin Racing, United Pickleball Association, Major League Pickleball, the PPA Tour, Camp Pickle, and is a Co-Owner and the Managing Partner of the Los Angeles Mad Drops. In consumer products, Mr. Mehta is an investor in Mr. Beast Feastables, Blox Snacks, Magnolia Table, The Whole Coffee Company, UNION Charcuterie Snacks, and Richard’s Rainwater, among others. In consumer technology, Mr. Mehta is an investor in Figure AI, Rethink First, Pipe Technologies and many others.
Prior to becoming a Founder/Operator/Investor, Mr. Mehta was an Associate at Lindsay Goldberg, where he was a private equity investor focused primarily on the consumer and industrials space. Prior to his experience at Lindsay Goldberg, Mr. Mehta was an Analyst at Warburg Dillon Read in the mergers & acquisitions group, where he focused in the consumer products, technology and healthcare sectors.
Mr. Mehta was born in New York, currently resides with his family in upstate New York and is expecting to move to Dallas in the next twelve months. Mr. Mehta graduated with a BA from Columbia College in Philosophy and Economics and graduated from Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, CT. In his spare time, Mr. Mehta enjoys pickleball, golf, tennis, skiing and traveling with his family.
Matt Turney is a Vice President at Southpaw Capital Partners and is the Chief Financial Officer of Dundon Capital Partners, a Dallas based private investment firm founded by Tom Dundon. Mr. Turney has served as Chief Financial Officer of Dundon Capital Partners since May 2021 and is responsible for transaction execution, operations, financial reporting and monitoring portfolio companies. Since June 2021, Mr. Turney has also served as the Chief Strategy Officer of the Carolina Hurricanes, a team in the National Hockey League.
Prior to joining Dundon Capital Partners, Mr. Turney worked as an investment banker for Citi, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions in the aerospace and defense and automotive sectors.
Mr. Turney holds a B.B.A. in finance with a specialization in alternative asset management from Southern Methodist University. In his time away from work, Mr. Turney enjoys spending time with his wife, working in his yard, golf, and traveling.
As VP Accounting of Dundon Capital Partners, Austin is responsible for overseeing the accounting function, providing financial reporting, and assisting with due diligence.
Prior to his role at DCP, Austin spent 5 years at ExxonMobil in both the Controller’s and Treasurer’s organizations. During his time at ExxonMobil, he worked in various corporate reporting roles across the upstream portfolio and most recently as a financial trader in the Americas Treasury Center. Austin holds both an M.S. and B.B.A. in Accounting as well as an Energy Management Concentration from Southern Methodist University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Case Bayless is an Associate at Southpaw Capital Partners and is a Senior Associate at Dundon Capital Partners. Mr. Bayless is responsible for all aspects of transaction evaluation and execution as well as aiding in the origination and negotiation processes of the firm’s investments.
Prior to joining Dundon Capital Partners, Mr. Bayless was an Analyst in J.P. Morgan’s Energy Investment Banking Group focusing on oil, gas and energy transition M&A and capital markets advisory.
Mr. Bayless graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern Methodist University, where he holds a B.B.A. in Finance with a specialization in Alternative Asset Management. Mr. Bayless was a member of the Southern Methodist University Varsity Men’s Football team, where he assisted SMU in reaching its first post-season appearance since 2012.
In his spare time, Mr. Bayless enjoys golf, college football, the outdoors, classic car restoration and spending time with his family. Mr. Bayless is an active member of his church, serving as a volunteer in the children’s ministry.
Callie is responsible for day to day executive admin tasks like managing the schedule and communications of key company executives, maintaining files, and prioritizing email responses and management.
Prior to her role at DCP, Callie worked for several businesses in an executive admin role. Callie graduated from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland with a degree in History and Management. In addition to her role at DCP, she serves as a member of the National Junior League of Dallas.
